Cosmetic Surgery Solutions

You don’t have to travel to enjoy the advanced care and skilled cosmetic surgery techniques right in your neighborhood. Our collection of surgical solutions, many of which have been refined by highly trained cosmetic surgeon Hugh Hetherington, MD, offer amazing, natural-looking, long-lasting results. Recover in the comfort of home and look forward to the new you with confidence. Below are a few procedures we offer.

Exercise and a healthy diet will help you stay muscular and lean, but it won't always zap those stubborn localized fat deposits that pop out of tummy-revealing tops and hip-hugging jeans or skirts. Since everybody's fat distribution and body shape is genetically determined, there is often no amount of diet and exercise that will remove these stubborn pockets of fat. Liposuction removes fat and fat cells, sculpting the body to achieve what diet and exercise, alone, cannot. Liposuction is one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in the United States today.

Perhaps you have never been happy with the nose you were born with. Or an injury has flawed a once-attractive nose. Rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is an outpatient procedure that can correct deformities and restore your self-confidence. Our advanced imaging software will enable you to envision your new nose through a computer-generated preview. And since Dr. Hetherington has performed hundreds of rhinoplasty procedures, you can look forward to the results with confidence.

Breast Augmentation

Today, breast augmentation is the most commonly performed cosmetic surgery operation in the U.S. At Bozeman Health Cosmetic Surgery, we find there are many reasons women choose to have their breasts augmented. Consider breast augmentation:

  • If you want a better proportioned or more appealing figure
  • If pregnancy, weight loss or aging has affected the size and shape of your breasts
  • To restore symmetry (i.e., if one of your breasts is a different size than the other)
  • To replace older implants

At Bozeman Health Cosmetic Surgery we offer two options for breast augmentation: TUBA with saline implants or Transaxillary with gel implants. We encourage our patients to do their own research and we'll work with you to help you determine the best option to achieve the look you want for your body.

TUBA with Saline Implants

Trans-umbilical breast augmentation or TUBA, allows saline implants to be placed through the navel with precision using an endoscope. The procedure is done entirely subcutaneously (or just under the skin), so it does not involve the abdominal organs or muscles. Highly trained cosmetic surgeon Hugh Hetherington, MD, has completed specialized training in this procedure and is the only physician in Montana who performs this procedure.

Most women appreciate that the TUBA surgery is less invasive than typical breast augmentation so there is less breast trauma and risk of injury to breast tissue. Because it’s less invasive, it means a faster recovery time -- something our patients truly appreciate.

There are misconceptions about the TUBA procedure. You may see references to the surgeon not being able to position implants properly, but that's simply not true. The surgeon can see the shape of the breast and position of the implant during the expansion phase -- it is no different than other techniques. You can have more of your questions about TUBA answered here.

TRANSAXILLARY with Gel Implants

Another option is Transaxillary breast augmentation with gel implants. It too allows for minimal scarring since the incision site hidden within the armpit resulting in natural looking breasts. Many patients prefer the armpit incision because it avoids scars on the breast and avoids cutting through the breast tissue when placing the breast implants underneath the muscle. The incision is small and depends upon the size of the implant but it is usually 2 inches or less. The incision is well hidden in the depth of the armpit. Once the armpit incision heals, it is barely noticeable. With the transaxillary endoscopic breast approach, the breast implants can be placed below or above the chest (also known as the pectoralis) muscle with great precision.

During your initial consultation, you will be asked about your goals and wishes for breast augmentation or breast enlargement. Your current concerns about your breast appearance are discussed as well as the improvements you are seeking. We'll also discuss the choice of breast implant filler, shape, size, and placement will be determined according to body type, breast size and shape and your esthetic objectives.

Otoplasty - Ear Surgery

Protruding ears can be the object of ridicule. Otoplasty is the name of the procedure used to correct deformities of the external ear. The best age to perform this operation is at about age 5. At this age, the external ears have reached 85-90% of their adult size, so there is little concern with possibly affecting the normal growth of the ear. Also, this is about the age when children start to notice differences and make fun of each other. Otoplasty can be done at any age. Older children and adults can have the procedure done under local anesthesia, often with IV sedation. Most adults who have this surgery wish they had done it sooner.

We also have nonsurgical options including injectables (such as Botox and similar products) and fillers (Radiesse, Restylane, etc), laser treatments and much more!

Eyelid Surgery -- Blepharoplasty

If you've tried countless remedies for minimizing bags and sags under your eyes without success, or if you have trouble with excess skin draping over your upper lids, a blepharoplasty (or eyelid surgery) may bring the results you're seeking and reduce or entirely eliminate these vision problems while making your eyes appear younger and more alert.

Upper eyelid surgery will remove excess or overhanging skin, and the incision will be hidden in the natural crease of the eye. A lower blepharoplasty removes excess skin and fat deposits, hiding the incision just below the natural lash line or just inside the lower lid.

A blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis using conscious sedation. Most patients return to normal activity in about 2 weeks. Decide if a blepharoplasty is right for you during a complimentary consultation.

Insurance coverage may depend on whether the surgery repairs a condition that impairs vision.

"I love my eyelid surgery; my eyes look so refreshed and youthful. People no longer ask me if I am tired or sad. It is so much easier to wear eye makeup as well. I had heard that if you wait long enough the excess skin will impair your vision and insurance will cover the procedure. I thought about waiting, but I am so glad that I didn't. The cost was less than expected and every morning I see a happy, rested face in the mirror, and that is priceless!"

Questions about Eyelid Surgery

What can I do about my "droopy" eyelids and the "bags" under my eyes?

Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is one of our most popular procedures. Rejuvenating the eyes can transform one's whole look from tired and heavy to refreshed and relaxed. It is very affordable and patients can usually return to work within a week or two.

What does the procedure involve?

On the upper lid, the doctor makes a very fine incision in the crease of the eyelid. Excess fat and skin are removed and the incision is closed. Once healed, the scars are almost invisible. On the lower lid, there are two different approaches. One is called transconjunctival (through the inside of the lid) where excess fat is either removed, repositioned or both. No skin is removed; there is no scar. The other approach is best when there is excess skin as well as bags. A very fine incision is made near the lash line. The fat is either removed, or repositioned, and sometimes the cheek muscle is slightly elevated, then the excess skin removed. Stitches are removed after four days.

How long is the recovery time?

Initially, there is swelling and bruising, this usually resolves in two to three weeks. Most patients return to work after a week or two, using camouflage make-up to mask any remaining bruises.
