Questions and Answers

If Bozeman Health is non-profit, why is financial stability one of its strategic goals?

Financial stability has the same level of importance as our other strategic goals - quality & patient satisfaction, community benefit & collaboration, relationship development, efficiency & accountability, and growth & development. Being a non-profit organization does not mean that we are not interested in realizing a profit. In fact, it is critical that we maintain a level of profitability so that we can continue to offer the services we now provide and remain financially viable so that we can enhance and/or expand those services to better meet community need in support of our mission.

What is the relationship between Bozeman Health Foundation and Bozeman Health?

Bozeman Health Foundation is a separate, non-profit corporation, governed by an independent board of directors that administers all philanthropic gifts to Bozeman Health and its programs. The foundation was established in 1998 to generate private financial support for improved community health and quality of life. Click here for more information about the Foundation.

What does the word "Deaconess" signify?

Is Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital affiliated with any other health system with "Deaconess" in the name?

Deaconesses were women in the late 1800s and early 1900s who dedicated their lives to service under the auspices of various churches. In the case of Bozeman, the deaconesses were affiliated with the Methodist Church. In 1911 Dr. Blair leased his "sanitarium" to the Methodist deaconesses and the name was changed to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Deaconesses continued to run the hospital for many years, doing everything from nursing to upkeep to administration. And, no, Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital is not affiliated with any other hospital or healthcare system. We are an independent, community-based organization.

What do I do if my doctor is unavailable after hours?

When your physician is not available or can’t see you in his/her office, you can utilize the Bozeman Health Emergency Services Department. The Emergency Department is staffed 24 hours per day, seven days per week with physicians and nurses trained to handle all types of emergencies. Designated as a Level II Trauma Center, specialized physicians are also on-call to handle complicated emergency situations when they arise.

How do I contact a patient?

Call the main Hospital number at 406-414-5000. However, due to privacy regulations you must know the patient’s name, and the patient must have agreed in advance to allow forwarding of any calls while they are in the hospital.

I want to send flowers to a patient. How do I do that?

Make sure you include the patient’s name and room number and send it to:

How do I volunteer at the hospital?

Volunteers are an integral part of our care team. They assist in all areas of the Hospital in administrative and clinical areas, but all volunteers must first be screened, interviewed, and oriented to the Hospital before they begin assignments. To find out about volunteer opportunities, please call the Volunteer Services Manager at 406-414-1693 to request an application.

Is Bozeman Health under the direction of a particular religious affiliation?

Bozeman Health retains some ties to the United Methodist Church, but is not controlled by it and no financial support is received from the United Methodist Church. The governance of the Bozeman Deaconess Health Services corporation is done by a local, independent, community-based board of trustees and some members of the board are local United Methodists. The assets of the corporation are 'held in trust' by the Yellowstone Conference of the United Methodist Church for the purposes of providing health care and related services to the people of Bozeman and Southcentral Montana.

Is Bozeman Health a non-profit organization?

Yes. Bozeman Health is a community owned, non-profit organization.

Does Bozeman Health provide speakers for community or civic events?

Yes. Please call the Health Information Center at 406-414-1644 to discuss possible topics.

Where can I find more information about health issues?

There are many resources for health information. Bozeman Health provides a free Health Information Center, located in the Atrium in Highland Park 2. It is open to the public from 8 am-4:30 pm Monday-Friday. For more information, please call the Center at 406-414-1644. While we believe that all individuals should be knowledgeable about their health status, Bozeman Health recommends that you follow the advice of your personal physician.

Will bed numbers increase?

Not at this time. There will be a similar number of beds available as we are currently operating. We are exploring adding additional inpatient beds in the future.

Why isn't my baby on the Virtual Nursery?

We respect our patient's wishes and privacy. Not all new parents choose to have their new baby's photo and information listed in our Virtual Nursery. Some parents may wait a few days after the baby has been born to have the newborn's photo taken. Normally, it may take up to 72 hours to have newborn information posted to the Virtual Nursery.

Babies are listed on the Virtual Nursery for 90 days. After that, they are no longer accessible.

I'm interested in selling my product at Bozeman Health. May I do that?

How do I get copies of my hospital medical records?

You may obtain instructions for how to obtain copies of your medical records by calling the Bozeman Health Medical Records at 406-414-1055.

Is Bozeman Health accredited?

Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital, including all hospital departments and Bozeman Health Belgrade Clinic, has earned a three year accreditation from DNV GL-Healthcare following completion of the DNV GL-Healthcare survey in the fall of 2016. Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital is the first hospital in Montana to seek and receive DNV GL-Healthcare accreditation, which demonstrates that we meet or exceed patient safety standards set forth by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Bozeman Health Cancer Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer accreditation program; Bozeman Health Mammographic Program by the American College of Radiology; the Diabetes Center Self Management Diabetes Education Program by the American Diabetes Association and National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA) recognition; Bozeman Health Cardiac Pulmonary and Adult Health and Wellness Program has twice earned American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation certification; Bozeman Health Laboratory earned College of American Pathologists accreditation; The Bozeman Health Cardiovascular Training Center is a designated American Heart Association Training Center; Bozeman Health Sleep Disorders Center is accredited by the American Association of Sleep Medicine; and Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital is certified by the American College of Surgeons as a Level III Trauma Center. The primary care clinics of Bozeman Health Medical Group earned Level III NQCA Physician Practice Connections--Patient-Centered Medical Home recognition; and the MRI and CT programs earned American College of Radiology accreditation

How do I find a doctor?

We cannot recommend a particular physician, as each individual has unique needs and requirements based on their personal situation. However, all of the doctors, podiatrists and dental specialists who are members of our hospital Medical Staff have been through a rigorous credentialing process acknowledging our quality standards. How can I observe/shadow or complete a required course internship with a healthcare provider?

Does Bozeman Health offer CPR & First aid classes if so, how do I sign up?

Bozeman Health offers CPR classes for the community and healthcare professionals.You can view the calendar here.

How can organizations request financial and in-kind support for fundraising events?

As a community partner, Bozeman Health sponsors and partners with many entities throughout the community. All requests with appropriate supporting information for financial and in-kind contributions from the organization should be submitted to the Marketing Communications department at least three months before the contribution is required. Requesting organizations will be required to fill out a Community Event/Project Sponsorship Request Form to facilitate the process.
