Deaconesses were women in the late 1800s and early 1900s who dedicated
their lives to service under the auspices of various churches. In the
case of Bozeman, the deaconesses were affiliated with the Methodist Church.
In 1911 Dr. Blair leased his "sanitarium" to the Methodist deaconesses
and the name was changed to Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. Deaconesses continued
to run the hospital for many years, doing everything from nursing to upkeep
to administration. And, no, Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital is not affiliated
with any other hospital or healthcare system. We are an independent, community-based
