Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital Earns “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®” Recognition from The Joint Commission

Cited for Care of Heart Attack, Pneumonia, Surgical Care and Venous Thromboembolism

<Bozeman, MT> – Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital has been named a 2015 Top Performer on Key
Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in
America. BHDH was recognized by The Joint Commission for exemplary performance in using evidencebased clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions.

Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital was recognized for its achievement in heart attack, pneumonia, surgical care and VTE (venous thromboembolism or blood clot) prevention. Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital is one of only 1,043 hospitals – out of more than 3,300 eligible in the U.S. – earning Top Performer distinction for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on data reported to The Joint Commission during 2014.

“We understand that what matters most to our patients is safe, effective care,” said David Chen, MD, Interim Dyad CEO and Chief Medical Officer at Bozeman Health. “That’s why Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital has made a commitment to accreditation and to positive patient outcomes through evidencebased care processes. We are proud to receive the distinction of being a Joint Commission Top Performer, because it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of every one of our employees.”

The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence‐based
interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions. Each accountability measure represents an evidence‐based practice, Chen added, such as giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients or giving the right antibiotic in a timely fashion before surgery.

“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high‐quality health
care,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO, The Joint Commission. “I
commend the efforts of Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital for their excellent performance on the use of evidence‐based interventions.”

Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital previously was named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission in 2013, for Heart Attack, Pneumonia and Surgical Care.
