Lifetime Achievement Award – Kathryn Borgenicht, MD, FACP

Kathryn Borgenicht, MD, FACP received the 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award at the American College of Physicians Scientific Meeting held September 8-10, 2016.

This award recognizes the outstanding achievements of a member of the Montana Chapter of the American College of Physicians who has dedicated their life to medicine, teaching and community service.

One of Dr. Borgenicht’ s colleagues described her as a partner and friend and said that since moving to Bozeman she has become a notable force for palliative care in this state. She participates at the state and national level in developing Physician Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment. She advocates tirelessly for the appropriate management of persistent pain and developed the Montana annual multi-disciplinary conference and initiative. In Bozeman she forged new ground as our first formal geriatrician and helped develop and maintain a palliative care program with clinical activity that rivals those at large centers. This is confirmed by their reporting quality data nationally. She is the medical director of hospice, serves on numerous hospital committees, and is a WWAMI medical school professor. Dr. Borgenicht also gives frequent community lectures on advance care planning. We are grateful for all of her contributions.
