Two Bozeman Health Services Named Blue Distinction Centers

Bozeman Health recently earned the distinction of being designated by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) as a Blue Distinction Center (BDC) for Knee and Hip Replacement and as a Blue Distinction Center Plus (BDC+) for Maternity Care.

Blue Distinction is a national designation program recognizing healthcare facilities that demonstrate expertise in delivering quality specialty care based on objective measures developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield. The goal is to help consumers find both quality and value for their special care needs while encouraging healthcare professionals to improve the overall quality and delivery of care nationwide.

“We previously have been designated a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement,” said Kim Herring, Bozeman Health Quality Director. “What’s really exciting is that this is the first year we were cited for Maternity Care, and we were recognized as a Blue Distinction Center Plus, the higher level of designation.”

Selection criteria for which Bozeman Health was named a BDC+ for Maternity Care were low number of early elective deliveries, low maternal morbidity measures for blood transfusions, acute myocardial infarction and sepsis, and high hospital satisfaction scores.

For the BDC for Hip and Knee Replacement, criteria included accreditation status, ancillary services available (ICU, 24/7 pharmacy, radiology, blood bank and laboratory), and low complication and readmission rates.
