Bozeman Health Deaconess Hospital Earns Blue Distinction Center+ Designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield

Bozeman Health is proud to announce that Deaconess Hospital has earned Blue Distinction Center+ designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) for hip and knee replacement, one of two hospitals in Montana to receive this recognition. Blue Distinction Specialty Care focuses on hospitals and other healthcare facilities that excel in delivering safe, effective treatment for specialty procedures (BCBS, 2021).
Blue Distinction Centers+ for knee and hip replacement have demonstrated expertise in total knee and total hip replacement surgeries, and have better patient outcomes with lower complication rates and fewer hospital readmissions. Deaconess Hospital was evaluated during the selection process on quality, cost, and access to ensure meaningful differentiation for consumers when selecting their hip and knee replacement surgeons.
BCBS looks at the following criteria when selecting programs for Blue Distinction+:
- Quality: nationally consistent approach to evaluating quality and safety was used, incorporating quality measures with meaningful impact, including delivery system features and specific quality outcomes to which all can aspire.
- Cost: nationally consistent and objective approach for selecting BDC+ was used to address market and consumer demand for cost savings and affordable healthcare.
- Access: Blue members’ access to Blue Distinction Centers was considered, to achieve the Program’s overall goal of providing differentiated performance on quality and, for the BDC+ designation, cost of care.
