Biography:
Dr. Stephen Halvorson is a family medicine physician with a unique background spanning primary care, emergency medicine, wilderness medicine and palliative care. For more than two decades, he has cared for patients in Montana communities, helping individuals and families navigate everyday health concerns, medical emergencies and complex chronic conditions. Dr. Halvorson earned his medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and completed his residency through the Montana Family Medicine Residency program in Billings. He is also pursuing a Master of Science in palliative care through the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Throughout his career, Dr. Halvorson has served patients across Montana in family medicine clinics, emergency departments and rural hospitals. In addition to family medicine, Dr. Halvorson has special interests in emergency medicine and palliative care. He believes deeply in building long-term relationships with patients and helping people make informed healthcare decisions. Outside of medicine, Dr. Halvorson enjoys the outdoors, wilderness education and community service. He has volunteered extensively in wilderness medicine, search and rescue education and endurance sports medicine.

Philosophy of Care:
“I believe great family medicine starts with listening. Every patient’s story, goals and circumstances are different, and healthcare should reflect that. My goal is to build trusted relationships with patients and families while providing thoughtful care to support long-term health, resilience and quality of life.”
